Over our 23 years as a company, we’ve worked with well-known technology organizations like Duolingo and Mozilla, not-for-profit organizations working in areas including arts funding and affordable internet access for low-income families, and with world-renowned doctors training other doctors through online education.

We’re proud of the fantastic products we’ve built in partnership with our clients and we’re actively invested in the processes behind these products. Within the next 6 months, we expect our team to grow from 31 to 34 people in order to meet the needs for new and existing projects. Our growth is careful and considered. We are committed to fostering a team-focused approach in our work of building great user-focused systems, while also placing a serious emphasis on quality of life, openness, empathy, and a supportive work environment.

The position

We’re looking for a Technical Architect to oversee the technical aspect of development for overlapping development teams that focus on one of our largest partners working in emergency medical education. This role would include planning, designing, leading, and executing technical solutions and improvements. We are open to individuals of various experience levels, though ideally you’ll be joining us with at least one prior full-time experience in a technical leadership role. We favour applicants with a strong sense of ownership over their own work. Excitement and ability to learn and contribute is more important to us than other metrics like years of experience.

This position is available immediately and we will work with you to get you started as soon as possible.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Product Owner to determine how product requirements will be implemented from a technical perspective.

  • Work with the Product Owner to provide guidance to the Operations team and our client on future contracts.

  • Consult with our client to provide them with rough estimates or guidance.

  • Collaborate with the team to identify and fix technical problems and roadblocks.

  • Balance deadlines and client needs with a supportive work environment and focus on quality of life.

  • Help manage the long-term maintenance of older code systems, and the sustainable migration of code to newer platforms.

  • Direct triage efforts in cases of outages or technical failures.

  • Provide employee feedback and contribute to reviews for the development team.

Requirements
  • Be eligible & available to work from Canada.

  • Have a passion for learning and self-improvement, both in terms of the tools and methodologies we use as a team, and personally.

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and have significant experience communicating with a team.

  • Have excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Be able to quickly learn and understand new systems.

  • Have an ongoing knowledge of industry best-practices.

  • Have a strong understanding of core full-stack Web application architecture, including front-end, backend, and devops technologies.

  • Have experience using version control systems like Git to manage changes.

  • Be able to communicate clearly with clients and co-workers across multiple time zones. Several of our key clients are in California and we have team members in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, as well as Ecuador and the United Kingdom.

Growth & ownership

Our team is co-operative and will help you learn and expand your skills via mentoring, team-wide support, and learning opportunities. All members of the team are encouraged and given space to grow as individual contributors, and have ongoing opportunities in project and team leadership.

We’re excited to hear your fresh ideas and approach. We have decades of collective experience, and we all continue to become better at what we do by both teaching and learning from each other. Add your voice to our mix.

Opportunity for employee ownership is a fundamental part of silverorange (non-founders currently own more than a third of the company) and we’re currently working on new ways to transfer even more ownership to employees.

Inclusion & diversity

People with different backgrounds and experiences make us stronger, and we’re always looking for ways to improve. Our team is getting more diverse across many dimensions of diversity, but we’re still missing perspectives that could make our work better. We highly encourage people from traditionally underrepresented groups in our industry to apply—we’d love to hear from you.

Remote working is just as good as local

Our team has been remote-friendly for over 20 years, and remote-first for the last 8. We continue to improve our approach to having a dispersed team. This is a full-time remote position regardless of location, though you are welcome to work from our lovely offices in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Over half of our team is full-time remote and 95% of our clients are remote. You’ll need to be comfortable working with a remote team regardless of your location.

Typically all employees spend at least one week each year working from our Charlottetown office so plan on visiting PEI semi-regularly once you feel safe traveling.

Though you may be working remotely, you’ll be an active member of a great and small but growing team, both here at silverorange and with our clients. Regular voice or video communication will help keep you in touch with the smart people with whom you’ll be working.

Benefits & compensation
  • Flexible work days, approached collaboratively with you to allow for the realities of appointments, family minding, and your everyday life.

  • 3 weeks of paid vacation, on top of 10 paid days of civic holidays, and 3 weeks of paid company-wide shut down.

  • New computer hardware every 3 years, and other tools as needed.

  • Yearly company-wide bonuses based on overall company success, plus ownership opportunities and dividends for long-term employees.

  • Salaries based on experience starting at CAD $82,500-94,500 per year, with both annual company wide salary band adjustments as well as opportunities and expectation of ongoing career and compensation growth.

  • Additional remote worker salary add-on of CAD $3,000 per year and a wellness salary add-on of $500 per year.

Fri, 02 Dec 2022 02:15:19 GMT

Headquarters: Louisville, KY
URL: https://www.podchaser.com/

Job Overview

Podchaser is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to be responsible for the ongoing configuration and maintenance of our existing stack including CI/CD pipelines, automating our software delivery processes and the general management and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure.

Working alongside our CTO and the rest of the engineering team, you'll develop and maintain container deployment, continuous integration, monitoring systems and performance troubleshooting, using your experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS and Elasticsearch, as well as your ability to learn new technologies.

Responsible for our security management and infrastructure roadmap, this role is integral to our development work, ensuring our platform is compliant and secure.

You will be taking over for an outgoing employee, so there will be a handover period after which you will be expected to ensure that business can continue as usual, while also collaborating on new projects.

This is a senior role, and we are only considering applicants with significant DevOps experience - at least 5 years experience is desired.

This is a 100% remote position, our engineers can live and work anywhere in the world, though there will be a requirement of at least some overlapping work hours with Melbourne, Australia (GMT+10).

We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, as we believe a diverse team leads to diverse ideas and solutions!

Responsibilities
  • Responsibility for our existing Kubernetes cluster and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring they are able to run smoothly with minimal downtime.
  • Troubleshooting, performance tuning and optimisation of cloud-hosted applications and services in AWS, including cost optimisation.
  • Adding additional microservice containers and supporting infrastructure and recommending how they can be integrated into the rest of our stack.
  • Deploying new infrastructure as required for new projects and initiatives in a maintainable manner.
  • Working with CTO to determine the infrastructure required for new projects, as well as improvements to existing infrastructure for performance benefits or cost reduction.
  • Assisting with onboarding of new employees, ensuring they have a working dev environment and access to appropriate resources.

Skills & Requirements
  • Deploying, scaling, and troubleshooting applications in production with Kubernetes.
  • Configuring and implementing CI/CD pipelines on the appropriate tools - we are currently using Gitlab and don’t have any reason to change that so experience there will be a bonus.
  • Building infrastructure on AWS
  • Using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Managing Elasticsearch clusters, with a good understanding of the processes involved in adding nodes to scale horizontally, manage required computing and memory resources, configure Kibana, etc.
  • Configuring and deploying NGINX to serve up a PHP backend.
  • Configuring and deploying a NodeJS Express backend (currently using PM2) to handle a server rendered React application.
  • General scripting skill to assist with automation and understand existing systems.

Qualities
  • You can earn our trust by sharing your thoughts and making commitments, and you're willing to trust your teammates to do the same.
  • You see your work all the way through to the end.
  • You can debate with empathy.
  • You are self-motivated, which means you handle your own time. This is a remote-only role, so it’s especially important that you are able to understand when a task is blocked by a colleague so you can use your time effectively elsewhere.
  • You are not afraid to try new things, and you're enthusiastic about helping others learn and grow.
  • You are pragmatic and can balance "textbook correctness" against practical reality.
  • You can keep your eye on the goal, while communicating early and often throughout a sprint.

Perks of Working at Podchaser
  • Fully distributed team - We have been remote since the beginning so have processes and systems already in place to ensure we are remote-friendly
  • Flexible schedule - You know the times you work best so you can work a schedule that works best for you

SRE Team @Heetch

Our infrastructure receives millions of events per day and processes millions of API requests. We also serve tens of thousands rides daily.
By joining the team, you'll be helping build its technical vision and creating the best platform to run our services at scale. You'll be joining a team collaborating with all the rest of the development organisation
We work day-to-day on automation in order to ensure reliability, scalability and velocity at Heetch
Our infrastructure is growing on a daily basis, with more than 160 micro services owned by 16 different teams and counting. One of our challenges is to provide help (design consulting, capacity planning, incident management, service development, monitoring, etc.) to other teams in order to spread common and best practices. We also develop, put in production and maintain services in order to ensure a maximum of independence and ownership to other teams

Some technologies we use:
  • Terraform, Ansible
  • Go Microservices Architecture
  • Kubernetes, EKS
  • AWS (EC2, Postgres RDS, ElastiCache Redis …)
  • Event Based architecture: Kafka, RabbitMQ
  • Monitoring: Datadog, Sentry, PagerDuty
  • Geographic information systems: OSRM, Tile38
  • Data processing: Airflow, kafka-connect

Does it sound like you?

- You love supporting other teams by being involved in all the lifecycle of the service (design, deployment, operations and evolution)
- You think that automation is a big part in the scaling of a platform
- You know when you need to be pushy about changes
- You like understanding incidents by going through a blameless postmortem process
- You have a strong expertise in AWS, Hashicorp tools ( especially Terraform) and Go (or are willing to learn it)
- You have an experience with a container orchestrator (Kubernetes, Mesos, etc...)
- You think that giving ownership to your mate is the best way to increase velocity inside a company
- Have solid knowledge of SQL, including the internals of Postgres: investigate slow queries, suggest index creation, optimise queries with backend devs
- You have a can do attitude, you won’t find reasons why something can’t be done, but find ways it can be done instead
- Experience developing in one or more general purpose programming or scripting languages, including but not limited to GoLang, Python, and JavaScript

What will you do?

- Create and maintain services to ensure velocity and ownership of your team mates
- Provide high standards and share knowledge with the rest of the organisation
- Automate the hard work
- Help other teams achieving their goals (eg. Be able to handle X calls per seconds)
- Design and troubleshoot distributed systems
- Design SLI, SLO with other teams and monitor the platform
- Participate in an on-call rotation and contribute to necessary escalations
- Work on database reliability and performance aspects from within the SRE team and work on solutions with the product engineering team
- Analyse solutions and implement best practices for our main PostgreSQL database cluster and its components
- Be part of the on call duties rotation (compensated)

Why work with us

- Yearly team retreat
- Strong company values embodied by everyone at Heetch (Be Kind, Play For The Team, Think Different, Make It Happen)
- A full remote culture that dates back from our company early days (not just since COVID, and it’s not going to change in the future)

We Work Remotely: DevOps and Sysadmin Jobs

Headquarters: Seattle, Washington, United States
URL: https://arborxr.com

Hello,

How are you?

I'm sure you've read hundreds of these job descriptions by now.

I hope reading this one will be less painful.

In short: We are growing our product team and looking for a versatile DevOps & Platform Developer.

We're looking for someone to join our current 2 DevOps developers and help us grow our platform and DevOps systems.

What might that look like?

You'll be helping our application - and our team - scale. Initially you'd be taking over the general maintenance and scaling of our server infrastructure. You'd collaborate with the Backend team on improvements to performance. Help us scale our databases. Evaluate implementing a multi-region deployment. Improve our local development experience for our developers. Assist with our SOC2, ISO 27001, and FedRAMP compliance. Help develop our internal platform for our team to use. A little bit of everything. You get to pick your own tools and we're always open to trying new things. You'd be the foundational member of our DevOps team and help it grow.

What's our stack today?

We use Google Cloud with their Kubernetes Engine for almost everything we do. Our backend applications are in a microservice architecture and are (almost) all PHP/Laravel applications. We utilized Google's hosted services for Postgres and Redis. All of the infrastructure itself is codified with Pulumi.

Does that sound interesting? Would you enjoy that role?

If so, please apply. I'd love to talk.

A bit about us?

We're a team of ~30

We are fully remote.

We don't micro manage.

We don't do the startup grind thing (and we don't work weekends).

You'd be working with a product team (not solo).

We're building some cool stuff. Our product is growing like crazy right now.

Want to read a bit about our team culture and story? See this: https://arborxr.com/about-us/

If that all sounds interesting and you'd like to apply.... please include in your cover letter your favorite flavor of ice cream. (Spam filter!)

Senior Director of Platform & Product
The mission of Kitces.com is to help real financial advisors be better and more successful, creating a 100X multiplier effect for our work and the number of consumers we can positively impact with the power of financial planning delivered by a Kitces-supported financial advicer to their clients.
To achieve this mission, Kitces.com publishes the leading financial planning industry blog Nerd’s Eye View and the Financial Advisor Success podcast, producing award-winning commentary on financial planning strategies and practice management trends for financial advisors ranked as the most Influential, Objective, Relevant, and Useful content amongst any online media publication for financial advisors.
Unlike traditional media sites, though, Kitces.com deliberately generates no revenue from advertising or sponsored content. Instead, we remain solely focused on creating value directly for our advisor readers in the form of one single deep-dive article each day, strengthening the awareness of and integrity of the Kitces brand through our quality and relevant content, and being compensated directly from our readers both on our site (for those who join our Members Section, hire us to speak and consult, or purchase our Kitces Courses and Summits), and through our co-owned financial services solutions for consumers (who may engage with our related financial advisory firms) as well as our business solutions for financial advisors themselves (for whom we have a number of businesses providing service and technology solutions for advisory firms).

Kitces.com is hiring a Senior Director of Platform & Product to lead the development of and serve as Product Owner for our digital media and online educational platform. In practice, this means learning how our Financial Advicer audience engages with our platform and its offerings, identifying and prioritizing improvements and new platform capabilities at the intersection of user demands and business strategy, lead our full-time developer team (and contractors, where appropriate) to build and implement the new features, and working cross-departmentally to deploy and launch. So if you can’t stand the negative reader experience of media websites that are filled with annoying slideshows and interstitial ads and want to work for a digital media platform that avoids advertising and cares about building a good platform experience, are constantly curious about what drives engagement behaviors and have always wanted the opportunity to work with an existing and loyal audience to build new digital experiences for them, and love turning product visions into reality by leading a developer team through a data-driven iterative process while building a great developer culture, … then this is the job for you! 😊

When on Slack calls, video is expected as we believe hearing voices and seeing faces makes for stronger communication and connections. We lean on technology tools to get things done and protect our time. An example is our use of the delayed-send on Slack messages. While anyone might have a great idea pop up at any time, we are careful to make sure messages are only sent during regular business hours to respect the work/home boundaries of our work-from-home (or work-from-anywhere) team.
As a company we try to front load meetings to the beginning of the week so that the end of the week can be more focused on Deep Work to maximize our personal productivity.
While, as a remote company, we tend to attract mostly hard-core introverts, we also recognize the value in creating work relationships, so we have a social committee that creatively offers a multitude of ways for people to connect in the ways they feel most comfortable.

Every day, we help teams deliver business value on the AWS cloud. We work with customers across a number of sectors, including e-commerce, media, healthcare, and fintech. The infrastructures we work with support millions of pounds of transactions every month.

Working with other Scale Factory colleagues, you’ll help our B2B SaaS customers build and operate their cloud solutions, working with their engineers to put together a foundation of good DevOps & SRE practise, helping them move faster, maintain uptime, and keep their secrets safe and secure.

In this role you will:
  • Work directly with customers, understanding their business requirements
  • Build client relationships
  • Review infrastructure and processes against AWS' frameworks and our own
  • Help to identify new sales opportunities
  • Provide recommendations and guidance on good infrastructure and DevOps practice
  • Coach and teach customers' staff, and Scale Factory colleagues

This isn’t the role for you if you’re not interested in investing in communication skills, or if you want to hide away from other people, cutting Terraform code and tuning RDS parameters (although we still do plenty of that). But if you’re friendly, curious, and collaborative, you’ll do well here.

Here are some of the benefits of working with us.

We’re friendly and inclusive, so if you have the skills and the experience, please apply no matter your age, gender, race, sexuality, religion, or physical ability.
